Editor’s Note: We spoke with Charles Miller, the owner of Tailored Inspections, a local company that specializes in home inspections in support of clients throughout Sarasota and Charlotte County. Please call 941-549-2962. Visit TailoredInspections.com.
Charles, please introduce your business service.
We are a one stop shop for buyers of homes or condos. That includes first time buyers and adults buying a second home. We can also inspect your pool, septic, test for Radon and mold, test water quality for FHA and VA loans, and much more. I started Tailored inspections in 2017 after spending my adult life in the construction trades. Tailored inspection was voted Business Partner of the Year by the Englewood Area Board of Realtors.
Your company is growing. Please introduce your team members?
Mike Coates is a Certified Professional Inspector (CPI) who earned his B.A. degree in business at the University of Wisconsin. He has 30 years in the marine trades in Alaska where he captained many vessels doing fishing and hunting charters. He also worked on tugs and barges in the oil spill response industry. Christopher Stewart is a Certified Professional Inspector (CPI) with more than 10 years of experience in construction and the manufacturing of home components. He was born and raised in Buffalo and he’s been living in Port Charlotte with his wife and two daughters since 2006. All three of us enjoy our family life and outdoor activities like fishing, boating, and kayaking.
Please summarize your own experience.
I’m a Certified Master Inspector (CMI) with more than 20 years of experience in construction. That includes commercial utilities and home remodeling. I worked for an electrician and plumber when I was younger. I also worked for the Englewood Water District for 13 years. I was born in Texas and lived in Indiana before my family moved to Englewood when I was 13. Our collective experiences help us to focus on all of the key areas that are important in a comprehensive home inspection.
Are you still active with the Englewood Area Board of Realtors and their Young Professional Network?
As much as possible given social distancing. We recently helped with a building project with Habitat for Humanity in Charlotte County.
What’s the latest with your wife Trudi and your children Paige and Brandon?
My wife and I are going through the trials and tribulations of remodeling our home. Paige and Brandon have started high school this year. We’re having lots of conversations about driving and boyfriends and girlfriends. I admit I’m not adjusting well to those conversations, but I’m happy if they’re happy.
