Editor’s Note: We spoke with Kim Nicol, one of the owners of Reid’s Nutrition Center in Englewood. Kim and her sisters continue the legacy of their beloved Mother, Lee Reid, in providing health products and helpful information. Lee was the inaugural recipient of our Englewood Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. We renamed the award in her honor. Artist Carroll Swayze was the first recipient of the Lee Reid Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. Visit the store at 1951 S. McCall Road. Call 941-474-1115. Learn more at ReidsNutrition.com. Kim, what’s the latest with your family business?
Reid’s is busier than ever. In addition to our long term customers, new customers are always stopping by for specific products and thoughtful questions about health, wellness, and recovery.
What are most customers asking questions about?
Many are focused on boosting immunity and improving gut health. The pandemic has served as a wakeup call for the importance of our immune system. Gut health is integral to immunity health. We recommend probiotics, medicinal mushrooms, digestive enzymes, and various herbs. We do our best to answer questions, and we stock a wide variety of supplements, vitamins, and other products that support health and longevity.
What are some of your favorite supplements and other products?I value so many products in our store based on research and feedback from customers. Selenium in methionine form is the number one mineral for protecting cells from any virus. Covid-19 has mutated over 700 times so it’s important to take it seriously. Vitamin D3 is another game changer. It’s especially important for older adults and adults of all ages that are not getting outside during the day. Vitamin C and Zinc are also important. A good herb to protect our lungs is Andrographis, known as King of Bitters.
What else would you like to share?
Even though we spend a lot of time answering questions, we also learn a great deal from our customers. Not only because they do their own research, but some are well informed about medicine, biology, and even genetics.
How are your sisters and the rest of the Reid family doing?
Everyone is staying busy with work and family time. It’s been 2 years since our Mom passed. Her spirit is present in our daily lives, and we do our best to live up to her high standards of being helpful and caring. That can be challenging when we are busy. Unfortunately, we recently lost another Lee – Lee Brinkley. Lee did live blood analysis at Reid’s for more than 20 years. We miss Lee and we are working to find another professional to support customers with blood cell analysis.
