Reid’s Nutrition Center has Grown up with Englewood – Editor’s Note: We spoke with Lee Reid, the owner of Reid’s Nutrition Center in Englewood, to learn more about her business and experience as a nutritionist.
You and your business have grown up with Englewood. How did you get started?
My introduction to nutrition began many years ago in California. I was a stressed out mom with four kids under the age of four. I was selling Tupperware to earn extra money. I did an event at a Shaklee meeting and that exposed me to higher quality vitamins. Within two weeks I was feeling so much better. I ended up selling vitamins for Shaklee over the next six years. My kids stopped getting sick and the rest is history. We moved to Englewood and I opened a nutrition store in 1976 to start applying the many things I had learned about vitamins. We have moved several times over the years until we moved into our current location in Palm Plaza.
What are your primary products?
We offer high quality vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fish oils, weight loss products, products for children, pet products, homeopathic remedies, essential oils, cosmetics, blood typing kits, books, and much more. We also ship products anywhere which supports our snowbird friends and other visitors.
What are some of the most common areas of interest people when they come into your store?
The most common areas of interest include stomach problems, inflammation pain and weight issues.
How do you keep up with so many products and trends in the industry?
We go to a lot of meetings and that includes trade shows and seminars. The learning never ends. We also learn a lot from interacting with current and new customers.
Many adults are taking control of their health instead of depending on prescribed pharmaceuticals. What’s driving this trend?
It’s mostly due to frustration. People using pharmaceutical products are exploring alternatives and that leads them to vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and other products.
You run a family business with your daughters Kim, Toni and Suzanne. How do you organize the team so everyone’s rowing in the same direction?
We all feel passionate about learning and helping others. We also leverage our respective talents in bookkeeping, product sales, store management, and interacting with customers.
Lee, what do you love about your work?
I love helping other people and my profession has helped me to develop many meaningful friendships over the past four decades. Our entire family realizes that a compassionate response to customers dealing with health challenges is an important opportunity. This is God’s store in terms of our values and sense of mission.
