Freya, why is mediation a sensible option compared to hiring lawyers?
Mediation allows both parties to have input towards their agreement. They communicate directly with their mediator to develop a fair and satisfactory agreement for both adults and their children. This process helps minimize emotional upheaval for the couple and children of all ages including adult children.
Please describe a non-adversarial separation or divorce?
It involves addressing and resolving honest disputes in a civil, relaxed manner that helps each client achieve their personal and financial goals. People choosing to separate have distinct needs and we support them with information and helpful ideas.
What’s your history as a mediator and what are your credentials?
I opened my practice in 2004 and I’ve helped many individuals and families over the years. I love what I do, and I enjoy supporting each client. That begins with good listening and questions that help them review their needs and concerns. As well as being a Mediator, I’m a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst. I hold a Securities License, a Florida State Life, Annuity and Health Insurance License, and I’m a Certified Long-Term Care Consultant, Chartered Special Needs Consultant, Guardianship trained and a Florida Licensed Realtor. I serve on the board of Josh Provides Epilepsy Assistance Foundation, the Child Protection Center and recently served as Treasurer for the Sarasota County Senior Advocacy Council.
What’s the process for meditation?
It involves addressing key questions allowing both parties to consider important issues. My role is to be a well-informed and neutral resource to help them build a sense of trust with their planning and all of the related decisions. Being a neutral third-party is an asset which saves time, money and stress.
What are other ways you help clients as a mediator?
We support marriage mediation, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial planning, eldercare mediation, and business mediation. Marriage mediation addresses underlying communication issues that could lead to divorce and thereby might prevent divorce. Pre and post-nuptial mediation can address issues before they occur such as dissolution or death. It’s especially important when there are children from previous relationships. And finally, business mediation is a way to resolve differences amicably.
Where are you from and what are some of your other interests?
I’m from New England, lived in the Midwest for multiple years, and moved to Florida after my divorce. Being a mom has been the greatest joy of my life. I also enjoy swimming, bicycling and gardening.
